Darrell L. Gerig

Darrell L. Gerig, 82, of Berne passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born on September 9, 1929 to Ralph A. and Sylvia Marie (Niswander) Gerig. He was married on September 16, 1950 to Marilyn Amstutz.
He was a band and choir director at Monmouth School for six years and Adams Central School for six years. He was also a middle school guidance counselor at Adams Central for 24 years. He was Minister of Music at Zoller Tabernacle in Detroit for three years, Decatur Missionary Church for 15 years, First Missionary Church in Berne for 15 years, and West Missionary Church in Berne for 15 years, where he was a member. He was a member of the Edelweiss Singers, a founding board member of the South Adams Senior Center, and the South Adams Arts Council.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Darrell (Lynn) Gerig of Fort Wayne; and Duane (Janet) Gerig of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter, Dawn (Douglas) Kelsey of Lafayette; two sisters, Kathleen Henkel of Berne; and Joyce (Edward) Widmark of Lima, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, January 26 and from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27 at the Swiss Village Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, January 28 at the West Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Keith Rupp.
Memorials may be made to the West Missionary Church Music Department and the South Adams Senior Center.
